I think we all can agree that there are a handful of people that Constantly complain about anything and everything, and this surely has a negative impact on our overall state of mind, especially if we are around them day to day. But what most of us do not really realized is that we are big offenders of this crime as well. Do not believe me? Look through your text messages, Facebook statuses, tweets, etc.. for the past week and you will see that the majority of them are forms of complaints. In fact, just as I scroll through my Facebook news feed right now, I can safely say that at least I 75% of the updates are complaints and / or rants. Which would not necessarily be worth writing an article for, but the problem is that 99% of that 75% of complaints are about the silliest things possible.
They are what we call 'First World Problems'. If it starts to drizzle outside, people will begin to complain about the rain. If it is rather hot or cold out, people will complain about that. If it is Monday, expect to see a dozen complaints about how the weekend was too short. I even seen one person complain about the post office being closed on a national holiday (this was written on Columbus Day)!
It has Become simple mathematics: Bring about something even slightly negative and then watch the complaints pour in. It's just a matter of clockwork these days. You're probably wondering why you Should even attempt to quit complaining ; there are many other ways to Improve oneself, why this? There are quite a few Reasons to Quit complaining in fact, for starters, you will be a much more desirable person to be around. Banishing complaints will also leave your mind in a much more positive state, are priority that alone has far too many benefits to names. Just know that you can essentially be a happier, healthier individual once you learn to stop complaining for good.
Who Can Complain?
As I Stated above, many of us suffer from deep delusion makes us believe that our petty Problems deserve to be complained about. If your phone is about to die and you did not make it through your workday as yet, that is not a life or death situation. If you get caught in traffic and show up to the movies 5 minutes late, who cares? If you spilled ketchup on your brand new designer bags, learn to be more careful with your condiments; but by all Means, do not burden yourself and those around you by complaining about it.
It's the people of the world that actually have real Reasons to complain that do not, is not that something? I'm 23 years old and I've spoken with a fair amount of homeless people, not once have I ever heard any one of them complain. It's the families that live in third world countries with third world Problems (no food, water, shelter, dying of diseases and extremely young ages, etc..) That deserve to complain, but They still do not. They just continue to strive forward.
The next time you find something to complain about, close your eyes and put yourself in the shoes of a homeless person and try to imagine if this would be something They would be complaining about. 99% of the time it will not be, on the contrary it will probably turn out to be something They would be extremely excited about! Take the example of When your car gets a flat tire. Because you will be upset now you will have to get your hands dirty putting on a spare or waste time calling for assistance, the homeless person would be happy that They have a car to begin with! A starving man will not complain if His food is cold, Because he does not know when the next time he sees food will be! This sort of thought process will help you to realized that many of the things you complain about are worthless.
Make A Contract With Yourself
Tell yourself that you will not complain for an entire day. Once you are able to master an entire day, move onto a whole week. Once you make it through the entire week without complaints, treat yourself to something special. This will be your contract with yourself, and it will make it Easier to continue forward.
Many of you have probably heard of the American baseball player, Jackie Robinson. He was extremely talented, but unfortunately for him, being an African American, he lived in a time where blacks were still not quite fully accepted by society. Despite this ignorant mindset of the people, Jackie still signed a major contract to play baseball for a large amount of money. What was funny was what They included in this contract. It basically Stated that Jackie was forbidden from complaining. No matter how many racial comments were spewed at him, he could not complain. When even the spectators springhalt on him, he had to remain calm and unaffected; imagine what great mental strength he built!
This is what we all must learn to do. If we feel that simply telling ourselves to not complain is not enough, then we must make a contract with ourselves and be serious about it. It is by no Means an easy task, nor can it be done in one day, unless you have the will power of the Green Lantern, but it definitely can be done.
Once you start to complain about the little things, that little seed will Sprout into a giant tree of complaints, and it is not exactly easy to uproot a tree. So it's better to let your complaint Tree Watering not die by it with more complaints. Then you will learn the art of letting things be and just enjoying everything that life has to offer without judgment.
