Can Blueberries Improve Your Memory

When I was younger, blueberries always seemed to be one of the more ‘boring’ berries as opposed to its cousins—strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. I tended to avoid them and went for the sweeter options, but now that I’m older, things have changed quite a bit between the berries and I. I have come to realize that blueberries have followed the trend of foods that ‘don’t taste that great but are super-healthy for you,’ and I have forced myself to start liking them.

Now, they are pretty much the only berry I eat on a regular basis! But what are so great about them? When it comes to ‘brain food,’ blueberries must be somewhere at the top of your list, or your list will lose all validity. It is no secret that your brain power will skyrocket if you eat a handful of these berries each day—and yes, that includes and improved memory.

That means that blueberries can improve memory are especially beneficial for older folks who want to avoid memory loss and the Alzheimer’s disease. It also helps to regulate blood sugar and high blood pressure. It has an extremely high level of anti-oxidants compared to other fruits and amazingly acts as a good natural anti-depressant. It promotes urinary tract health, it helps with anti-aging, it lowers oxidative stress in nerve cells, daily intake of this stuff even increases eNOS activity.

Of course, how can I forget that it can help to ward off many cancers including breast, colon, esophagus, and small intestine. Trying to lose weight? It’s also known for getting rid of belly fat! Okay, you’ve probably heard enough by now, it’s now in your hands whether you want to incorporate them in your diet or not.

I normally add a handful of them to my protein shake or sometimes I take a few and sprinkle them on my oatmeal. You can even freeze them and eat them as a frozen snack as they are one of the few fruits that don’t lose any nutrients during the freezing process. Enjoy!
